Today the Ontario Sportsman Series is pleased to announce that it will be part of a new television package at Barrie Speedway for the 2008 Season and is poised to make history with the coverage of Canada's fastest growing Stock Car Series.
Barrie Speedway has signed a broadcast deal with Rogers Communications to provide flag to flag coverage at Barrie Speedway for the entire 2008 season. The OSS will be racing at Barrie Speedway twice this season, including the championship date on September 20th, bringing television coverage at it's best to the growing series.
Barrie Speedway will also become the first of all Race Tracks to step outside the box and bring the OSS to perform outside their regular program.
In addition to their all ready exciting race format, Barrie Speedway has orchestrated a deal with the OSS, by show casing The Barrie Triple 50's, something that has never been done since the inception of the Ontario Sportsman Series. This will landmark the first time the OSS has inverted their starting line ups 3 times at one Race Track and should prove to be one of the biggest highlights of the year for Barrie Speedway, and the OSS Race Teams.
Jim Payetta, spokesman for Barrie Speedway, was excited to announce the deal by saying," The Ontario Sportsman Series is well run and we’re excited to be able to bring the added value of television coverage to the series. We look forward to hosting the OSS races this season and expect they will be very successful events for all involved, especially the fans”.
Air time will be front page news, as all race events at Barrie Speedway will be aired in Prime Time on the Rogers Television Network with a one week delay, airing the events on Wednesday nights, Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. The coverage area includes many areas that the OSS competes in and will give fans a chance to see their favourite drivers and sponsor's on TV.
“Barrie Speedway is under new ownership and the new owners want to promote every racer that has made the commitment to challenge the opportunities of competing in a series that is more competitive then any other in Southern Ontario. On top of providing a First Class Race facility, the owners of Barrie Speedway are going to please everyone with this television deal, and I see this as a major step forward in orchestrating a professionally run race facility. This is great news for our series and I’ll be working towards ensuring that we will part of the Barrie Speedway schedule in coming years", said David Didero of the OSS. “We’ll be working hard to grow and prosper with all the tracks we race at, including Barrie Speedway, and look to make the Ontario Sportsman Series a favourite of Race Fans, Race Teams and Sponsors”, added Didero.
Dave Connelly, Director of the OSS had this to say about the recent announcement,
“Barrie Speedway is being run by business people – they have a great product and it’s being promoted to all the stock car fans in Ontario through this deal.
We’re proud to be racing at Barrie Speedway and to be part of this television deal. This is a new venture and we look forward to putting on a fantastic show that not only fans can see live – but they can catch sitting at home on their big screen's”.
Barrie Speedway’s Jim Payetta closed with this statement.
"We’re striving to make Barrie Speedway Canada's #1 short track racing facility for Fans and Race Teams. We believe this television deal is a big step towards that goal and will help grow the Speedway and Racing Series like the OSS, by allowing new fans to see the capabilities of Barrie Speedway and our intent to becoming the very best race track in Southern Ontario.
Our relationship with the OSS will continue to grow as we both work to create successful Motorsports events in this country”.
