The
summer school break may be drawing to an end but for
Brantford
High School
student Mitch Brown this weekend is more about racing than getting
ready for the classrooms.
The
sixteen year-old stock car racing enthusiast has a busy line-up of
events on his schedule beginning with his Mini Stock program on
Friday night at Ohsweken Speedway where he currently leads the
divisional standings.
Going
into Friday’s events, the third-generation driver holds a 158
points lead over his closest challenger and fellow
Brantford
driver Kevin Hilborn.
In
Friday’s race schedule he and his crew will be kept busy by
running last weekend’s 15-lap feature race that, because of rain,
was added to this week’s schedule, then he has to run the
speedway’s regular Friday night race
card which includes a qualifying heat and the feature event for the
ESSO Mini Stocks.
Delaware
Speedway
On Weekend Schedule
On
Saturday Brown will again switch gears, racing surfaces, cars and
series as he heads to
London
’s Delaware Speedway for race number six on the Lucas Oil
Sportsman Cup schedule where he currently sits eighth in the
seasonal point’s standings.
It will
be the rookies’ first taste of action on the half-mile paved oval
that both his dad and granddad enjoyed success at during their
racing careers.
Saturday’s
schedule for the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup teams includes qualifying
beginning at 7:30 P.M. and two 50-lap races. The track opens for
registration at 4:00 p.m. followed by rotating practice sessions
beginning at 6:00 p.m.
With only
two events left on the Sportsman schedule, Mitch is hoping to garner
even points to close the gap between his current position in the
standings and third spot currently held by Dan Prudhomme of
Thamesford. He currently trails Prudhomme by 36 points heading to
Delaware
. Even with a solid run on Saturday he also knows he’ll have his
hands full as he chases down the likes of Cole Weber, Brennan
Didero, Matt Robblee and Shawn McGlynn who stand between him and
Prudhomme in the points’ race.
Steve
Robblee of Dorchester, who over his illustrious career has virtually
“owned”
Delaware
, currently leads the standings with a 66-point margin over Dave
Connelly of
Ottawa
.
