The Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series will take to the Mosport
Oval this coming weekend, June 12th, to kick off the 2010
Racing Season as the Series enters its 4th year.
Several returning Drivers, as well New Teams are looking
forward to taking the Green Flag after a 8 month Winter
break where teams readied their cars and equipment for
another season of non stop - side by side racing.
With the absence of Steve and Matt
Robblee odds are we will see a new Champion in 2010, and
there is a good group of potential Winners in the field
leading off with last years Top 5.
Brennan Didero #24 returns
from a third place in the 2009 championship points
and is doing so in a newly built car from the Mid America
Motorsports stable. Although this is the first race for the
2010 Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series it is not the first race
of the year for Didero who competed last weekend in the
Nascar Canadian Tire Series event at Delaware Speedway,
finishing a respectable 14th. "We have one goal
in mind and that is to be on top at the end of the year
for a Championship. The off season gave us lots of time
to build a new car and we think we have a good piece
for this year"
Brennan Didero
Ottawa's Dave Connelly #82 returns
with his Schneiders Dodge hoping to make a run for the
Championship as well, and after coming off of a good run
last year and finishing 4th in the points makes him a threat
to anyone that is racing for the win. "We were
pretty consistent last year and came close to winning a
couple of events, a cup full of gas dropped us from 2nd to
4th overall - i have a bigger fuel cell this year"
laughed Dave.
Rounding out last years top 5 is
Cole Weber #11 who drove the wheels off of his Dodge
last year and can be regarded as a good choice to
do the same this year. Weber was on his game last year
and found himself always in the hunt for the Win which
he successfully pulled of last year. Weber is the only
remaining Driver in the Top 5 from last year that
actually Won a race as both Didero and Connelly were shut
out in 2009 although both of them were top 10 finishers at
most races gaining valuable points towards the Championship,
and you can bet that both of them want a Checkered Flag.
Beside's last years Top 5
finishers there is a pretty stout field of more then
20 Drivers that will be on their game in 2010 with new
cars, new sponsors and new colors. London
Ontario's Jay Doerr #40 and Josh Wood #66, as well,
Thamesford's Dan Prudhomme #96 are always Drivers
to keep your eye's on.
If your a true race fan and love to
see some of the best racing that Ontario has to offer, then
be sure not to miss the opener this weekend at Mosport
Speedway.
Gates open at 5:30, Qualifying at 6:30 and a 100 Lapper
